CONFAB: Ohaneze Insists On Six Zonal Structures In Nigeria

As various ethnic nationalities in Nigeria articulate their common position at the ongoing National Delegates conference in Abuja, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Sunday reiterated its stand on six zonal structure arrangement in the country.
The Igbo umbrella body, in a communique issued after its caucus meeting held at its national secretariat in Enugu, said such zonal structures should be invested with enormous powers.
According to the communique signed by Professor Ben Obumselu on behalf of the communique drafting committee “Ndigbo thank our delegates and congratulate our delegates on the good work they have done so far and are still doing.
“Ndigbo reaffirm our support for six zonal structure in solidarity with the South-West, South-South and all delegates that share our common view on the way forward for Nigeria.
“Ndigbo unanimously affirm that we stand on the six zonal structure.
“On power devolution, Ndigbo are restating that power be devolved to the zones”.
“Ndigbo insist on proper application of the secularity of the Nigerian state.
“We reaffirm that citizenship rights should prevail as contained in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”, the communique added.
The marathon meeting which was attended by representatives of Ohaneze chapters across Nigeria was presided over its president- General, chief Garry Igariewey.
