The Arch Bishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province of the Anglican Communion, His Grace, Most Rev. (Dr.) Emmanuel Chukwuma, has urged the Federal Government (FG) to urgently address critical issues that necessitated the ongoing agitation for a Sovereign State of Biafra by some Igbo groups.
He held that the unity of Nigeria remained paramount in the minds of majority of Ndigbo, saying FG, under the watch of President Mohammadu Buhari, must endeavour to make justice, equity and fair play its watchdog.
Addressing newsmen Thursday in Enugu on burning national issues in the South East, and Nigeria, the fiery Anglican Cleric, posited that the agitation for Biafra Republic was born out of aged long of marginalization and neglect of Igbo nation.
According to him, “in one Nigeria we stand, but in doing so, there must be justice and equity in the distribution of the nation’s common wealth”.
Chukwuma, insisted that apart from the arrest of their leaders, members of the Nnamdi Kanu, led Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign state of Biafra (MASSOB), went into agitation out of frustration and neglect by successive FG.
“The IPOB, MASSOB agitators need to be empowered and gainfully employed, by governments.
“The Federal government should also stabilize power in the south region so that industries in the area will begin to function uninterrupted, and by so doing, they will provide jobs for these aggrieved youths” Chukwuma advised.
While urging Biafran agitators to embrace peace and dialogue, he appealed to President Buhari to obey court order and release the detained Director and promoter of Radio Biafra, Kanu unconditionally.
“Mr. President should temper justice with mercy and order the release of Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally,
“We want to assure Mr. President that we are ready to tame and direct Kanu and his group aright, once he is released, adding that federal government should set him free and tap from his vast knowledge in technological advancement.
On the ongoing crusade against corruption in Nigeria, the ArchBishop, applauded President Buhari for the courage, assuring him of the total support of the Igbo nation in winning the war.
