Chekwas Okorie Emerges UPP Presidential Candidate

National Chairman of the United Progressives Party, UPP, Chekwas Okorie, has emerged the party’s presidential candidate for the February 14, 2015 poll.
He emerged at the party’s national convention held on Thursday at Binez Hotel, in the commercial city of Aba, Abia State.
Bello Umar, also emerged the running mate (vice presidential candidate) to the Abia state born politician.
African Examiner recalled that the opposition party, UPP was registered by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, in October 2012.
Okorie, is now the third presidential candidate to emerge from various political parties, ahead of the 2015 presidential election in Nigeria.
The ruling peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had on Thursday adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as its sole presidential candidate during the party’s convention in Abuja.
Same day, ex- head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, was elected the candidate of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC during the party’s convention in Lagos.
A statement issued by the media coordinator of the UPP, Orji Okorie, disclosed that the party’s flags were also presented to three of its governorship candidates.
Those who received the flags include, Osmond Ukanacho (Imo), Chris Akomas (Abia), Binta Gwarzo (Kano).
The statement further stated that the positions of all the national working committee, NWC, members of the party were also ratified at the Convention.
