“Card Readers Will Guarantee Credible Elections”
Latest Headlines, News From The State, Nigeria 2015 Election Thursday, March 19th, 2015Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has said that the use of card readers during the forthcoming general elections will guarantee credible elections as incidents of electoral malpractices will be checked.
Governor Ahmed stated this when members of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Producers Association (TAMPPA) paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House, Ilorin.
Dr Ahmed who wondered why any democrat will oppose the use of card readers in the forthcoming elections, said “card readers remain the only instrument that will guarantee credibility of the forthcoming elections as it ensures that there are no multiple votes. Why would any one want multiple voting to take place? What they are telling us is that if they don’t want card readers, the government is not about you; it’s about them.”
The Governor advised Nigerians to be very conscious of this and insist that government should be about the people and not about those who are governing.
According to Governor Ahmed, the high level of consciousness that characterises the elections could be deepened if theatre arts practitioners actively engage in the enlightenment of the citizenry.
Governor Ahmed promised regular interface between his administration and the members of the TAMPPA in order to ensure information flow to the people of the State, especially those at the grassroots.
The leader of TAMPPA, Alhaji Abdulfatah Adeniyi Kazeem, who announced the endorsement of Governor Ahmed for a second term, commended the state government for equitable utilization of the resources of the state for infrastructural development despite prevalence of dwindling resources from the federation account to the state.
Alhaji Kazeem said his administration was ready to partner the state government in enlightening the public on development related issues.
