LAGOS, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – After its remand application was granted, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has moved former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, to its Lagos office, Ikoyi for more investigations.
The anti-graft agency had Monday approached Lagos Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, requesting her to grant an application demanding further holding of the opposition Chieftain in its custody for another three weeks.
The earlier remand order allowed the EFCC to hold Fani-Kayode for two weeks, but it stated it was renewable.
It would be recalled the former Minister who allegedly received the sum of N840 Million from former President Goodluck Campaign Organization was the Director of Media and Publicity of the Campaign body in 2015.
While filing the application Monday, Counsel to the EFCC, Mr. A.N. Anana, argued that the application for a renewed remand order was consistent with the provisions of Section 261 of Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Still, Fani-Kayode’s Counsel, Mr. Wale Balogun objected to the motion, arguing that his client ought to have been allowed to go, as the first remand order has elapsed. He therefore contended that further holding of the PDP stalwart amounted to breaching of the Law.
