Featured, Latest Headlines, Politics Tuesday, March 17th, 2015From Abdul Gafar Bello – Election violence raged Monday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, as the wife of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), Hajia Aisha Buhari and her convoy were attacked by the suspected political thugs.
General Buhari’s wife and her team who were in the North Central State for a two – day Voters’ Education Summit, were attacked while returning from a visit to the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Zulu-Gambari.
The State’s opposition Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ishiola Balogun-Fulani, confirmed the incident to journalists and fingered the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); affirmed no one was hurt as well as called on the Police to investigate it.
The party publicist also pointed out that the attack, which took place, close to a cinema house at Emir Road, Ilorin, affected 10 vehicles belonging to Gen Buhari’s wife and her team.
On contrary, the State’s PDP Governorship candidate (Simeon Ajibola) media aide, Mr. Tajudeen Abdulkareem, denied the allegation and absolved his party.
AbdulKareem alleged that it might be a self-inflicted attack, sponsored by the State’s APC Leader and former Governor, Senator Bukola Saraki.
He explained: “Those who harassed Mrs. Buhari cannot be our members. They may be area boys who wanted to extort money. They are the boys used and abandoned by the APC state leader, Dr. Bukola Saraki” said the State PDP Spokesperson.
The State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salihu Garba, had also confirmed the onslaught and said his men had commenced investigations.
