Buhari Says He Will Depend on Masses for Campaign Funds As Supporters Donate N54.4 Million
Featured, Latest Headlines, Nigeria 2015 Election Tuesday, December 23rd, 2014Ayodele Afolabi, Abuja – The Presidential flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, APC, General Mohammadu Buhari has said that the masses of Nigeria would fund his campaign.
Buhari who stated this in Abuja added that for probity and accountability, he would be the sole signatory to such account aand that every kobo would be accounted for.
He said that every donor would be issued a donation card so that no individual who donated is not acknowledged.
Buhari said, “So far, the people have donated N54, 415. 70 to support our campaign ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
“Currently 82 support groups have been registered under the Buhari Support Organisations (BSO).
“The BSO has 475,796 coordinators and a total membership in the region of 8,492, 226 across the country.
“To actualise our dreams and we intend to use the registration and donation cards to enlist the members of the groups as volunteer change agents.
“I know we live in difficult times. There is insecurity, corruption, poverty and above all the uncertainty of lives which is becoming unbearable.
“I want to appeal to our supporters to continue making sacrifice till we get the needed change”.
The APC Presidential candidate however said that he was misquoted regarding the source of the N27 million he used to obtain the presidential nomination form.
Meanwhile, in his own campaign fundraising dinner held at presidential villa, President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) raked in N21.27 billion.
PDP Governors, business people, government contractors and multinational organizations donated the money to boost the president’s electioneering campaign.
