Buhari Orders Proclamation Of 8th National Assembly As APC Consensus Plan For Senate Presidency Collapses
Featured, Latest Headlines Thursday, June 4th, 2015Ayodele Afolabi, Abuja – President Mohammadu Buhari has sent a letter of proclamation of the 8th National Assembly to the Clerk, Salihu Maikasuwa.
He directed the Clerk of the National Assembly to convene the new session on Tuesday 9, June 2015.
National Assembly source said that Buhari’s proclamation was received on Wednesday 3rd June.
This is just as protests marred the move by the All Progressive Congress, APC to adopt a consensus candidate for the position of the Senate Presidency.
The APC leadership had slated a meeting with Senators-elect and House members-elect for the International Conference Centre, Abuja but later cancelled the meeting.
The Bukola Saraki group who appears not to enjoy the favour of the party leadership protested to the APC asking the party to hands off from the choice of Senate leadership.
The APC leaders has until the midnight on Monday June 8 to resolve the impasse or allow the Senators to elect their leadership.
