BREAKING: Finally, Buhari Sacks Service Chiefs, Names Replacements
African News, Featured, Latest Headlines, News, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Tuesday, January 26th, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – President Muhammadu Buhari has announced that the Service Chiefs have resigned their appointments and thus proceeded on retirement from service.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina in Abuja.
The statement says those retired are the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
Also, the names of the new service-chiefs as announced are: Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral A. Z. Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff.
President Buhari congratulated the new Service Chiefs enjoining them to be loyal and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities.
African Examiner reports that the president has been under immense pressure from Nigerians for some time now to fire the services chiefs over protracted killings, kidnapping as well as banditry across the country.
