A former Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi in the early hours of Wednesday suddenly died in his house in ancient town, Benin City at the age of 54 years.
Online Media, TheCable reports that a member of Keshi’s family confirmed his death in a telephone conversation.
“He was not ill at all, never showed any signs of illness, but we suspect he never got over the death of his wife.” said the source.
Keshi lost his wife of 33 years, Kate, in 2015 after a prolonged battle with cancer.
He is survived by four children and his mother.
The football icon is the only Nigerian coach to have won the Africa Cup of Nations as a player and Coach. He won the cup in 1994 and 2013 as a player and coach respectively.
Keshi who was sacked as Super Eagles Coach in 2015, had earlier worked as Head Coach of Togo and Mali national teams.
He was recently planning to join South African League as coach before his sudden death.
