Breaking News – Bomb Blast Hits Polling Booth In Enugu
Featured, Latest Headlines, Nigeria 2015 Election Saturday, March 28th, 2015FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Enugu – Tension has gripped residents of Enugu metropolis and environ, following bomb blast at a polling unit inside WTC primary school in the early hours of today (saturday).
African Examiner correspondent reports that WTC compound hosts three post-primary institutions.
The incident occurred few meters to the polling unit where accreditation and voting for the presidential and National Assembly (NASS)elections are scheduled to hold.
As at the time of filling this report, Police anti-bomb squad were at the scene trying to detonate the remaining unexploded bombs.
The security operatives had earlier, detonated two bomb at about 9.05 am which meant that there would have been a chain of bomb explosion during the accreditation exercise but for the timely intervention of the law enforcement agents.
Our Correspondent reports that the bombs were carefully parked in a Honda car with registration number (KuJ971 ABJ) before the first explosion went off.
Meanwhile, the development has put fear on voters in the state, as they are now scared from going to the polling centres to exercise their civic responsibility.
The state commissioner of police, Dan Bature, led the detectives to the scene, just as people, including journalists were prevented from going too close or taking photograph at the scene for safety.
Bature, had advised residents of Enugu not to panic,saying the situation was under control.
