BREAKING NEWS: Appeal Court Sacks David Mark

The Appeal court sitting in Makurdi, Benue state has nullified the election of the former Senate President, David Mark.

In ruling on the appeal brought by Daniel Onjeh, the Benue South Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Justice Ige held that the election of Mr. Mark was fraught with irregularities contrary to the electoral act.

Consequently, the court ordered that fresh election be conducted within 90 days.

The judged said: “Notwithstanding the resolution of issue in favour of the respondent, the appellant appeal succeeds.

“The judgement of the tribunal is hereby set aside. The election and or return of the 1st respondent is nullified and, hereby, ordered that INEC shall within 90 days hold fresh election in the senatorial district.”

Senator David Mark, the immediate past senate president, has been a member of the upper legislative chambers since 1999 making him one of the longest serving legislators presently at the national assembly.

David Mark in his reaction reacting through his spokesperson, Paul Mumeh, said: “If we go back to the polls 100 times, I will still win convincingly.Whatever the situation may be, one thing I know is that my people are solidly behind me. They also appreciate the fact that I have done more than enough to lift up Idoma nation to a position of eminence in the contemporary political history of Nigeria.”
