BREAKING: INEC Makes U-turn, Postpones Edo Governorship Election
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Thursday, September 8th, 2016BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Few Hours after it insisted Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State would hold, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the election by two weeks.
Earlier on Thursday, the electoral body insisted that it was ready for the conduct of the election despite the security warnings.
However, reports reaching African Examiner indicate the decision to postpone the election was later reached Thursday evening at a security meeting held in Benin, Edo state.
Recall that at a press briefing in Abuja Wednesday, the Department of State Security Service (DSS) and Police clarified that their call to the INEC for the shifting of the polls was due to threats by the militant groups, insurgents and extremists to launch attacks between September 12 and 13, 2016.
