BREAKING: Facebook Oversight Board Upholds Trump’s Ban
African News, Latest Headlines, World News Wednesday, May 5th, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Facebook Oversight Board on Wednesday Upheld Former US President Trump’s permanent ban from both Facebook and Instagram.
The board, however, frowned at the permanent nature of the ban saying it was beyond the scope of Facebook’s normal penalties.
The social media giant said it will consider board’s decision and determine action that is clear and proportionate.
“while the board has not required Facebook to immediately restore Mr. Trump’s accounts, it has not specified the appropriate duration of the penalty.
“Instead, the board criticized the open-ended nature of the suspension, calling it an ‘indeterminate and standardless penalty,’ and insisted we review our response.
“We will now consider the board’s decision and determine an action that is clear and proportionate,” a statement from Facebook reads
The former president was banned from both facebook and instagram in January following the Capitol Hill riots.
The board ruling means that for now Trump’s suspension stands.
