Appeal Court Upholds A’Ibom Election Tribunal Ruling, Cancels Election in 18 LGAS

BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has lost his appeal challenging the judgment of the state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal which ordered fresh elections in 18 local governments area of the state.
The five-man panel of the appeal court sitting in Abuja dismissed Governor Emmanuel’s appeal challenging the competence of APC’s candidate Mr Umana to file petition challenging the outcome of the April 11 governorship election at the tribunal.
In its ruling, the court upheld the ruling of the election tribunal and thus ordered fresh elections in 18 local governments out of the 31 local governments area of the state.
Meanwhile, at the time of filing this report, our correspondent reports that the court is yet to rule on the appeal filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Okon Umana asking the court to cancel election in all the 31 local government area of the state.
