Breaking: Another Bomb Explosion Rocks Awka
Featured, Latest Headlines, News, Nigeria 2015 Election Saturday, March 28th, 2015FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Awka – Less than an hour that a bomb exploded at a polling unit in Enugu, a similar incident has occurred in Awka, Anambra state.
The Anambra explosion took place at Atom a polling unit at Umuokpara primary school, Awka ward one.
African Examiner gathered from residents of the area that the explosion happened at 7:05 in the morning with a loud bang that sent people scampering for safety.
However, an eyewitness and community leader in the area, Aiza Nwosu said the explosion may not be unconnected with today’s election, but may have been targeted at scaring voters away.
The explosion which shattered a classroom in the school also removed a window in the class.
It was further gathered that an unexploded bomb is still in the class.
As at the time of filling this report, anti bomb squad was still being awaited.
Meanwhile, the Member representing the area in the federal house of reps, Hon Nwogbo declined comments, saying he has no reaction to the incident.
However, the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC officials arrived exactly 8:40 am, while the Bomb disposal team later arrived at 9:09.
The development has put fear on the voters, as many have decided not to turn up for the accreditation and voting any more.
