Featured, Latest Headlines, U.S./Canada, World News Wednesday, August 31st, 2016BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – At last, the embattled Brazilian President Ms. Dilma Rousseff has been impeached by the Senate.
The Senators voted Wednesday in support of allegation that she manipulated Brazil’s budget so as to be re-elected into the office in 2015.
In all, 61 Senators voted in favour of Rousseff’s impeachment while 20 voted against the move, thus resulting in meeting the two-thirds majority, needed to remove her from office.
The former President has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the budget manipulation story was a coup against her. She has also accused her Deputy Michel Temer as the master minder of the revolt.
The impeachment puts an end to 13 years in power of her left-wing Workers’ Party.
With Rousseff’s sack, Acting President Michel Temer will now serve her term, which ends on January 1, 2019.
Mr. Temer, from the centre-right PMDB party, is expected to be officially sworn in later Wednesday.
