Boko Haram Declares Secession in Gwoza, Hoists Flag
Featured, Latest Headlines Sunday, August 24th, 2014Dreaded Boko Haram insurgents’ group has declared Gwoza, an enclave in the Borno State, North Eastern Nigeria, as an Islamic Caliphate.
The declaration was contained in a 52-minute video clip addressed by the insurgents head, Abubakar Shekau and released to the media.
His address reads: “Thanks be to Allah who gave victory to our brethren in Gwoza and made it part of the Islamic Caliphate”, adding the war torn community has “nothing to do with Nigeria” anymore.
Shekau vowed, “By the grace of Allah we will not leave the town. We have come to stay,”
Gwoza, southern Borno, is one of the settlements, being terrorized and taken over alongside others in Yobe and Adamawa states.
Last week, Boko Haram attacked a Police Academy near Gwoza with three Armoured tanks, many motorbikes in which scores were killed, while the army were over powered and fled.
Nigerian Police confirmed that 35 police officers are still missing in the attack.
The defense Headquarters has however maintained it would take over the towns and villages occupied by the group, which has been on rampage for over five years now.
