BLACK WEEKEND: Fire Consumes Woman, 7 Children In Ebonyi

Tragedy struck last weekend in Ohufu- Ogboji community in Ishielu Council Area of Ebonyi State, as a woman and her seven children were consumed in an early morning fire that occurred at about 3am.
AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered that only the octogenarian husband of the late woman, Mr. Sylvanus Nwefuru and one of their children, identified as Ukamaka Nwefuru survived the disaster.
The inferno, completely burnt the two thatched houses where the family members were sleeping, just as properties valued several millions of naira were destroyed by the inferno.
Narrating how the incident occured to newsmen on Sunday, Mr. Nweferu, 80, told newsmen that he heard a loud noise while deeply asleep, adding that he woke up suddenly and saw the entire house on fire.
Also sharing her sad experience, the daughter, Ukamaka disclosed that her mother who rescued her, went into the fire to save another member of the family, but was caught by the inferno which burnt her completely.
Reacting to the unfortunate incident, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ishielu local government area, Henry Eze, urged security agencies to investigate the possible cause of the disaster.
