Bayelsa: We’re Not Harbouring Criminals –PDP
Featured, Latest Headlines, News From The State, Politics Friday, November 27th, 2015The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has denied allegations of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which, among others, stated that the state government was habouring criminals and that it was planning to rig the December 5 governorship election by recruiting thugs who would wear military and police uniforms on election day.
The PDP in a statement on Friday by the Director of Publicity of the Restoration Campaign Organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, the party took a swipe at the APC as it claimed its statement was not only a tissue of lies but also exposed APC and its leadership as “yet crude and unrepentant”.
The PDP said its reaction was to let the public know that APC’s statement was an after thought after exposing its plan to rig the election by sewing army and police uniforms to be given to thugs on election day to intimidate voters or hijack electoral materials.
“We are happy this issue is raised again and a challenge to the security agencies to deal ruthlessly with any fake individuals in army or police uniform on election- day. We exposed this plot by the APC at our press conference two week ago and we stand by our allegations. But the APC now wants to pretend otherwise which exposes their usual tricks. It’s all a bunch of lies. We do not need to do anything illegal to win because even the APC know we will win. The crowd of genuine supporters at all our rallies says it all. The good people of Bayelsa will certainly vote PDP” based on our track record of performance.
On the allegation of habouring criminals, Obuebite said it was far-fetched as Governor Dickson is well regarded as a peaceful man who has also been preaching peace throughout the course of the election.
He said the governor’s antecedents unlike APC candidateTimipre Sylva attest to his assertions as his administration has emphasized security of lives and property from the beginning till date and indeed no life has been lost on account of extra-judicial killing or otherwise under his watch in the state unlike underTimipre Sylva.
“Sylva and his supporters are yet crude and unrepentant”, he declared.
He stated that the APC statement was a confirmation that despite his pretenses telling Bayelsans he is a changed man, Sylva has not changed a bit.
Obuebite cited as lies Sylva’s claim that he did not knowFamutangbe, a security organization he set up as governor, ever killed people but heaped the blame on those he appointed to run it.
“When asked on national television the meaning of Famutangbe, Sylva again lied that it means to “sweep and throw away’ but every Ijaw man knows the meaning of Famutangbe. Succinctly, we want to state clearly that the APC in Bayelsa has been proven as a party of liars and violent people. Bayelsans know too well the kind of criminals in the APC and we call on the security agencies to beam the searchlight on them as we urge the general public to discountenance APC allegations as a bundle of lies and hogwash to mislead the people.”
