Bayelsa, Kogi Polls: Ijaw Group Hails IGP For Deploying 100,000 Personnel
Featured, Latest Headlines, News From The State Wednesday, October 21st, 2015BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – A socio-political group, the Ijaw Youths Democratic Association has expressed its support for the Inspector-General of Police over plans by the force to deploy over a 100,000 of its special anti crime mobile squad to Kogi and Bayelsa States for their forthcoming governorship elections.
A statement by President of IYDA, General, Ebifagha Timothy and Secretary, Tilly Ekaunkumo, described the decision of the IGP as a step in the right direction, stressing that, it would go a long way in checking the orgy of violence already being unleashed on innocent Bayelsans by cultists, working for the All Progressive Congress, APC.
According to the statement, the presence of such a specialized mobile police squad will also restore the confidence reposed on the security agencies, especially the police by Bayelsans and the electoral process.
It called on every registered voter in the State to take advantage of the envisaged security presence by turning out enmasse to cast their votes on the 5th of December, 2015.
The statement also commended the IGP on his decision to ensure that, his men, that will be deployed to the states acts transparently, without any bias for any candidate, protect lives and property as well as ensuring a peaceful conduct of the entire process.
“This is long overdue and we hope that, the IGP will not pay lip service to this pledge, because that is the only way we can keep our democracy growing like other advanced democracies across the world.”
