Atiku Condemns Zamfara Abduction
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Thursday, September 2nd, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Atiku Abubakar, former Vice-President of Nigeria, has frowned at the abduction of students of Government secondary schools in Kaya, Zamfara State.
African Examiner recalls that gunmen suspected to be bandits on Wednesday attacked a secondary school in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State and abducted 73 students.
Reacting to this development, Atiku on his Twitter account stated that it is now time to have a School Protection Standby Unit for the protection of schools in areas prone to attacks.
“I am saddened by reports of yet another abduction of students in Zamfara. For a region that’s playing catch-up in the critical area of education, this continued assault on the bedrock of our development is not acceptable.
“Perhaps the time has come to have a School Protection Standby Unit deployed exclusively to protect schools in areas prone to these attacks. If we don’t take preemptive actions, I fear that education in the already disadvantaged regions may suffer irreversible losses.
“Meanwhile, I hope that no effort will be spared for a speedy recovery of the students.”
