Armed Robbers Kill Four Policemen In Delta

BALTIMORE, MD, (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Ugbolu community in Asaba, the Delta State capital was on friday thrown into confusion and anxiety, following the killing of four police men who were on patrol by heavily armed robbers.
The hoodlums, shot the policemen dead, after disposing residents of the area of their belongings.
The robbers were said to have opened fire on the police patrol van on sighting them along the Asaba-Ugbolu Expressway, killing four, while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered that the policemen also seriously injured four of the six-man gang during the gun battle.
A resident of the community who doest not want to be quoted in print said: “The armed robbers had just robbed residents of the community, and were on their way home when the police patrol team ran into them.
“They opened fire on the policemen, who equally returned the firepower, but unfortunately, four policemen died.”
In his reaction, the State Commissioner of police Alkali Usman, who confirmed the incident, claimed that only one policeman was killed.
He added that the other officers who sustained fatal injuries were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Asaba, for medical treatment.
The Commissioner, however, assured residents of the state of adequate security, promising that the police is working towards nabbing the fleeing hoodlum, whom he vowed cannot go free.
