Armed Robbers Attack Filling Station In Usukka, Cart Away Huge Amount

The university town of Nsukka, Enugu State, was on Saturday thrown into pandemonium as heavily armed bandits stormed a filling station where they carted away undisclosed amount of money, just as the police killed two of them during a gun dwell.

Our correspondent, learnt that the dare- devil, hoodlums stormed the FECOL filling station located within the University of Nigeria UNN in motorbikes.

A source told African Examiner that the hoodlums were already on their way out, having carted away huge sum of money from the filling station, when a police detachment from Nsukka Police Command confronted them.

The source said upon sighting the policemen, the hoodlums opened fire, adding that the police quickly responded and overpowered them, killing one instantly, while the second robber died later.

Our correspondent gathered that the alleged notorious gang, have been terrorizing Nsukka and its environs.

The Enugu state police public Relations officer PPRO, Ebere Amarizu, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said, “whereas one of the hoodlums died on the spot, the second gave up the ghost on the way to hospital, adding that one of them escaped with bullet injuries.

Said Amaraizu: “the robbers were on their robbery operation in the early hours of 5/4/14 at a FECOL filling station situated at Enugu Road Nsukka when security operatives engaged them following a distress call.

“The hoodlums had stormed the filling station with their motorcycle and commenced their illicit operation before they were engaged.

“The deceased robbers were later identified as Sunday Eze and Obinna Eze while manhunt on the injured and fleeing cohort of the deceased robbers has been intensified”.

He said “Items recovered from them are one Barreta pistol with seven rounds of live ammunitions, one motorcycle, one locally made pistol with one cartridge and some amount of money, which they had robbed from the filling station before they were confronted by the operatives.

According to the command spokesman,“their dead bodies have been deposited in a nearby hospital mortuary”,
