Armed Bandits Stab Policeman During Robbery Operation In Ebonyi

ABAKALIKI, EBONYI (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – A policeman serving in the Ebonyi state command simply identified as Harrison, was on Wednesday seriously stabbed by members of a deadly robbery gang during a gun battle in Abakaliki.
The incident happened when policemen, acting on a tip-off, laid ambush on the robbers who had burgled a phone shop, C-Net communications at about 7pm along Gunning Road in the state capital, during which they were engaged in gun battle.
AFRICAN EXAMINER gathered in the process, the policeman was stabbed, while two of the robbery suspects were shot.
George Okafor, the state Police Public Relations Officer PPRO ASP, who confirmed the incident to newsmen on Wednesday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi state capital, said the robbery incident happened around 7pm.
According to him, “The Command received a distress call that the robbers were robbing the phone shop, and quickly dispatched its men to intercept the bandits.
“When our men arrived at the scene, there was a gun battle.
“One of the robbers engaged an officer identified as Harrison and stabbed him repeatedly in various parts of his body and even attempted to take his rifle.
“But our men were up to the task and responded and in the process the assailant and one of his colleagues were shot.
“The two injured robbers and the police officer were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, FETHA11.
“One of the suspects died on the way while the policeman stabbed is responding to treatment,” Okafor hinted.
