Appeal Court Nullifies Senator Ekwunife’s Election, Orders Fresh Poll
Featured, Latest Headlines, News, Politics Monday, December 7th, 2015BALTIMORE, MD (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Appeal Court sitting in Enugu, the Enugu State capital has upturned the victory of Senator Uche Ekwunife of Anambra Central Senatorial District.
Ekwunife, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Downstream sector of the Petroleum Industry victory, is being challenged by Senator Chris Ngigie, who is now the Minister of Employment and Labour, as well as former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh.
Leading the three-man Appeal panel, Justice Datijo Yahaya, in his unanimous ruling, held that the judgment of the Anambra Election Petition Tribunal, which had earlier upheld Ekwuife’s victory, could not stand.
He therefore ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election within 90 days in the South East State central zone.
The latest nullification brings to two, similar development, within less than two weeks. Recalled, former Senate President, David Mark’s victory was equally upturned by a court of Appeal sitting in Markudi, the Benue State capital, North central Nigeria.
