The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State says it registered not less than 80,000 members during the just concluded week-long exercise in the state.
Interim Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, Mr Nzube Ubasinachi, made this known to newsmen Thursday in Enugu, adding that the party was still collating the registration forms.
The state APC spokesman who described the exercise as successful, disclosed that the party distributed 100 forms to each of all the polling centres in the state.
He said the party through its house to house registration drive, recorded massive turnout in the state.
His words :”The registration was successful in Enugu State. We did not experience any problem and there was massive turnout of people.
“In all the polling booths, we gave the officers 100 forms each to register members. Some wards completed their mandate while some registered between 80 and 90 persons.
“We are still collating the numbers but so far, we have recorded about 80,000 members,’’ he said.
He lamented that some of their members were indigent and could not afford passport photographs required for the registration.
“We resorted to assisting some of our members in the rural areas to take passport photographs for the registration.
“Many of our agents arranged for photographers and they took a snap shot which we paid for,’’ he said.
He called on members who had yet to register to come to the party office for appropriate documentation.
Our correspondent reports that the registration exercise which began nationwide on Feb. 5th commenced in Enugu on Feb.6th and ended on Thursday, Feb. 13 across the coal city state.
