Just as the supporters of the two leading Presidential aspirants in All Progressives Party (APC) are busy working to ensure their principal pick the APC sole presidential ticket for 2015 general elections, the APC governors have concluded plans to meet on Wednesday in Ilorin to finalize the best option for the party’s primary elections.
AFRICAN EXAMINER’s correspondent gathered that the governor will reconsider modified delegates system for the primaries.
The party according to insider source is working to ensure credible, free and fair primary elections that would be acceptable to all aspirants.
APC leadership in September announced that all party members would participate in primary elections by voting in their wards but the party later made U-turn by introducing modified delegates system.
Some section in the party wants consensus candidate, especially for presidential primaries as stipulated in Article 20 of APC Constitution and Section 87 (6) of the Electoral Act while others insisted the party must conduct primary elections.
The APC governors would deliberate on issue relating to consensus candidate and proposed indirect primary elections.
Our correspondent reports that Progressives Governors Forum under the chairmanship of Governor Rochas Okorocha would also hold a valedictory meeting for immediate past governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
