The Council of State Meeting convened on Tuesday by President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja suffered a setback as the representatives – Governors of the leading opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), except the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomole were not in attendance.
However, all the Governors under the platform of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former President Sheu Shagari, Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), President Olusegun Obasanjo, Head of the Interim National Government (ING), Chief Ernest Shonekan as well as the Senate President David Mark were present at the meeting which held in the morning, inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Tuesday emergency meeting was convened by Mr. President to review the state of nation, especially the renewed attack by the insurgents in the North Eastern part of the country after the rumoured and failed negotiation with the dreaded Boko Haram.
The Council of State meeting is always presided over by the President as Chairman, while the Vice is Deputy. Council members are constitutionally charged with the responsibilities to offer advice to the President on issues of national interest.
