APC Fighting a Lost Battle in Bayelsa –PDP

*Says Alleged Assault On S/Ijaw Chairman Laughable

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has said that all those who caused the violence which led to wanton loss of lives and property during the cancelled election in Southern Ijaw and other parts of the state on December 5 would   face the full weight of the law, even as it described the alleged assault on the chairman of Southern Ijaw local government, Chief Remember Ogbe, by Governor Dickson as a cock and bull story unworthy of any further comment.

It said that the APC was fighting a lost battle because the governorship election has already been won and lost because the PDP candidate, Governor Seriake Dickson is in an unassailable position having won in six of seven local government areas with Southern Ijaw the only remaining area of contest.

“It’s a lost battle for the APC”, he stated.

In a statement on Tuesday by the Director of Publicity of the Restoration Campaign Organisation, Jonathan Obuebite, the PDP said there were attempts by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to whip up sentiments over efforts by the state government to ensure that  justice takes its course because all those who were arrested over disturbances which marred the governorship elections of December 5 and 6 were APC members.

Obuebite said all those arrested will be duly prosecuted and be made to face the full wrath of the law, if found guilty regardless of their party affiliation.

He said it is now clear to those who were deceived that federal might will protect them from their impunity that there is no such thing.

“All the military and police personnel who took part in that mayhem are currently facing a duly constituted panel of enquiry by the respective security institutions. So no one is above the law”, he said.

Obuebute was emphatic that no amount of propaganda and blackmail will save APC from defeat come January 9, saying the PDP has no reason to import thugs as alleged by the APC to win in the rerun election.

He added that it was an election already won with the PDP candidate and governor of the state, Seriake Dickson, leading by a wide margin.

“The APC should simply concede victory rather than engaging in needless propaganda, cheap blackmail and grandstanding”, he said.
