APC Candidate, Babakaka Garbai Wins Borno Central Zone Bye-Election

Alhaji Babakaka Garbai, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Saturday bye-election of the Borno Central Senatorial district.
Announcing the result Sunday evening, the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Fannami, declared that the winner polled a total of 120, 639 votes as against the first runners-up, Alhaji Kaka Bolori of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who recorded a total of 32,347 votes.
Followed by Bolori was the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Mallam Babakura Modu who garnered 660 votes, while the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), flag bearer, Alhaji Bukar Muhammed who came a distant fourth mustered only 324 votes.
The total number of registered voters was in the district, according Prof. Fannami was 908, 114, while the total number of accredited voters was 174, 329. The Returning Officer indicated further that the total number of votes cast was 159, 998; the number of valid votes: 155, 443 while the rejected votes was put at 4, 555.
The winner of the bye-election, Alhaji Garbai has linked his victory to God and dedicated it to the people of his Senatorial district.
It would be recalled the Senator formerly representing Garbai’s district, Ahmed Zanna, died in May this year at the National Hospital after illness.
