Anambra Tragedy: APC Backs CAN Over Ban on Political Campaigns at Churches in S/East

Ignatius Okpara, Enugu

The All Progressives Congress {APC} South East, Nigeria chapter has hailed the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the zone for banning political rally in churches within the region.

ana“We agree entirely with the submission of CAN that no politician is henceforth allowed to carry his campaign train to the church and begin to make unnecessary promises or make donations that are frivolous to buy the conscience of the people.

“Anambra people should be ready to vote according to their conscience and shun money bags who come to entice them with money, the mandate of the people must be respected’.

APC, in an early hour morning statement issued in Enugu Wednesday, by its south east publicity secretary, Osita Okechukwu, said:

“We totally agree with CAN on the truism that if Governor Peter Obi and the APGA campaign train did not attend the adoration or at the least had gone to the adoration ground candidly for spiritual uplifting, meditation and communion with God without campaigning, and making donations; definitely the tragedy could have been avoided.

“Secondly and most importantly CAN’s observation that,

“What we are seeing today in Anambra State is a desecration of the church, people should go to the church to pray and be saved not to go to church to die, we are very much concerned over what happened.”

The statement continued: “We therefore call on politicians to stay clear of our churches with their campaign train, adding that the party also agrees with the independent observers’ position on the tragedy, not the blame game of Governor Obi and his cohorts.

“Lastly, we agree with CAN that the Federal Government should set up an investigation panel to find out the remote cause of the Uke Adoration tragedy; not Governor Obi the culprit judging his own case.

“Anambra people, and by extension Ndigbo, can we in all sincerely trust and reward him with our votes? We must not forget that Governor Obi is alleged to have issued the shoot at sight Order against MASSOB members in Anambra State?

“The last we heard about this heinous tragedy was the statement credited to Chief Victor Umeh, the National chairman of APGA in Thisday newspaper of April 18, 2013 which quote,

‘On the directive of Obasanjo, Obi gave a shoot at sight order against MASSOB members in Anambra State.

“So many people were killed in the process. This angered Ojukwu and all of us a great deal and when they impeached him, Ojukwu told me that Peter Obi will never be anything in APGA any more. I took Obi to Ojukwu to beg him severally before he finally agreed’.

On Ezigbo Gburugburu, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu’s demise the man Governor Obi hypocritically  adores, he was fingered, Chief Victor Umeh a close confidant of his has this to say,

‘Let November 26 come and go I will expose all of their activities as they claim to be upholding the ideals of Ojukwu.

“The way things are going, very soon I will start granting interviews again to put things in proper perspective both for Governor Obi and all of them that are destroying this party

“It is time to expose everybody and everything I know about Ojukwu’s illness and the death of Ojukwu’. —Sun newspaper November 12 2012.

On the Esu River tragedy, where floating dead bodies of young men were found, has Governor Obi as the Chief Security Officer of Anambra State unraveled what happened or filed suit against the police?

“In sum CAN stated the obvious and none of the above statements had been refuted or libel suit filed, therefore Governor Obi and his Trojan Horse must be rejected for the sake of posterity. APC stated.
