Anambra Set for LGA Polls; APC, PDP, LP Listed Among Participating Parties

After series of postponements, all is now set for the conduct of local government council elections in Anambra State. The election has been scheduled for next Saturday, January 11, 2014.
Mr. Sylvester Okonkwo, the Acting Chairman of the Anambra state Independent Electoral Commission ANSIEC, who disclosed this Monday in Awka said that a total of 25 political parties will participate in the exercise.
He told newsmen that the commission was fully prepared for the election.
The chairman noted that the number of political parties that are participating in the political contest was the highest since the history of the conduct of council polls in Nigeria.
He however, listed the participating parties to include Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Action Alliance AA, All Progressives Congress APC, Labour Party LP, All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, and Accord Party AP.
Although, Okonkwo said that APC did not officially write the commission on its withdrawal from the polls, but rather, only sent him a text message to that effect.
According to him, the text message was also sent to the state governor, Mr. Peter obi. His words: “I only got a text message from them saying that they will not participate because of the flawed voter register used in the governorship poll.
Recalled that APC had threatened that it would not participate in the local government election due to the faulty voters’ registered used during the just concluded governorship election won by the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
