Featured, Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Sunday, March 7th, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Mr Chika Ekwenugo, Head of Anambra COVID-19 Protocols Taskforce Team says enforcement of COVID-19 protocols is necessary and not targeted at revenue generation rather to ensure strict compliance by residents
Ekwenugo said that the team would sustain the enforcement in the state until people realised the need to assist government in maintaining public health.
He made the disclosure in an interview in Awka on Sunday.
Ekwenugo said the team was not interested in the revenue accruals from COVID-19 violators but was more concerned on checking the spread of the deadly virus in the state.
He urged the public to see observation of the COVID-19 precautionary measures as a civic duty they owed the state to ensure that the virus spread was controlled for safety of all.
“The virus is real and it exists in Anambra, let us all join hands with the government to kick it out of our state,” he said.
He advised people to always wear their face-masks properly to avoid the wrath of the law as more defaulters had been charged to court and new defaulters would also be prosecuted.
It would be recalled that over 80 COVID-19 violators in Anambra were charged to a Magistrates’ Court and found guilty by the court presided over by Mr Mike Anyadiegwu.
He said that they were guilty for refusing to wear facemasks, contrary to section 9(h) and punishable under section 12(3) of the COVID-19 and Dangerous Infectious Diseases Prevention and Eradication Law of Anambra , 2020.
Also some of the violators were given option of fines ranging from N1000 to N3000 or carryout community services for two days at the Court premises or any other government establishment.
