Ambode Dissolves Lagos Council Caretaker Committees
Featured, Lagos, Latest Headlines, News, News From The State Thursday, June 9th, 2016LAGOS, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has approved dissolution of the Caretaker Committees of the Local Council authorities in the State.
The development followed the resolution of the State House of Assembly Thursday, which approved the relief of the Executive Secretaries and Care Committees of the 20 Councils and 37 Local Development Council areas.
Subsequently, Ambode in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Tunji Bello, directed the Executive Secretaries to hand over the of administration of their respective Council areas to Heads of Administration.
The State Government explained that the move was made to ensure that the necessary machineries were put in place ahead of the next Local Government elections.
It would be recalled that the State House of Assembly on April 22 this year, passed into law a bill which recommended a review – four-year tenure for the elected Executive Chairmen.
The immediate past State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) inaugurated the just dissolved Caretaker Committees January 5, 2015.
