Amaechi Releases 1 Billion Naira To Tackle Ogoni-Opobo Unity Road Project
Featured, Latest Headlines Sunday, March 2nd, 2014Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said his administration has disbursed one billion Naira to contractors to effect speedy completion of the Ogoni-Andoni-Opobo unity road project.
Amaechi disclosed this Sunday when he led his wife Dame Judith Amaechi and the Federal Lawmaker representing Andoni-Opobo in the National Assembly, Hon. Dakuku Adol-Peterside to inspect some on-going road projects in the state.
He also visited the on-going Woji-Elelenwo bridge project.
Governor Amaechi also said although construction work has been slow due to funding, on-going work on site indicates that in the next few weeks, the contractors will link the bridge on the Opobo axis to Kalaibiama town.
According to him, “Opobo town is 6 kilometers from this bridge. The bridge that will link Kalaibiama should be ready in the next few weeks and I think technically, it is the last bridge. Work on site has shown that the on-going construction work will reach the axis of Opobo soon, and it all depends on how fast the contractors can change the culvert into a bridge”. Amaechi said.
While expressing satisfaction on the level of job done so far by the contractors, Governor Amaechi urged the contractors to facilitate work on the bridge linking Ikuru and Ngo communities before the raining season.
His words: “We have disbursed one billion naira to the contractors to facilitate job on the road. The one billion naira was from the 30billion naira we accessed from the savings, and we hope that the contractors will increase the pace of work”.
Amaechi also mentioned that he has instructed the state commissioner for works, Hon. Victor Giadom to ask the contractor to commence binder course on the road project.
“I have asked the commissioner for works to instruct the contractor to commence work on the binder course on the road project.”
