Amaechi Escapes Assasination In Wike’s Community


FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Port Harcourt – Governor Rotimi Amaechi, of Rivers state was Thursday evening attacked by heavily armed suspected political thugs believed to be working for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP at Obio/Akpor council Area of the state.

African Examiner gathered that hoodlums fired several gunshots at  the governor.

At least, two members of the All Progressives Congress APC were said to have been seriously injured during the attack, which occurred at about 6pm on Thursday.

Governor Ameachi, who is also the Director- General of the APC presidential campaign was on a door-to-door ward campaign in the area when the thugs confronted him and his team.

Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. David Iyofor, who confirmed the incident said that the thugs also set bonfire along the road to prevent the governor from leaving the area.

He stated that the thugs suspected to be working for the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, threw bottles, stones and other dangerous objects at Governor Amaechi and his entourage.

His words: “This evening, gunshots were fired at the Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi at Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area by PDP thugs.

“Obio/Akpor is the home of the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Nyesom Wike.

“The thugs attacked the governor and his entourage with bottles, stones and various dangerous objects. Then gunshots were fired at the governor.

“When the governor was leaving the community, bonfire was set up on the road to prevent him from leaving. More gunshots were fired at his convoy.

“Amaechi was on door-to-door ward campaign in the state.”

However, the Campaign Organisation of the APC governorship candidate in the state, Dakuku Peterside has condemned the attack on the governor, alleging it is part of the plot to assassinate chieftains and members of the APC in the state.
