Amaechi Emerges As Buhari’s Running Mate
Featured, Latest Headlines Friday, December 12th, 2014Oyewale Oyelola – Barring any last minute change of plans, the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi as a running mate to the party’s Presidential flagbearer, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
African examiner correspondent gathered that APC leaders picked Amaechi in a meeting that lasted for several hours in Victoria Island, Lagos.
It was gathered that the party leaders settled for Governor Rotimi Amaechi out of three shortlisted candidates because they believe he will add value to the ticket.
Another reason that favors Amaechi was the decision of APC to go for Muslim/Christian ticket even as Nigerians have kicked against Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Sources close to the meeting also hinted that APC governors insisted the party must field one of them as vice presidential candidate.
African Examiner also gathered that Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos state was dropped because of his religion, while former governor of Ekiti state; Dr. Kayode Fayemi was edged out because they consider him as ‘too soft’ for APC presidency.
Meanwhile, the party has said it will soon make an official announcement on whom it has chosen as its vice presidential flag bearer.
