Alams Emerges Plateau Speaker, as Ramnap becomes first female D/Speaker

Following intense pressure from his colleagues, the embattled Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, RT. Hon. John Clark Dabwan, on Wednesday resigned as Speaker of the House.
The embattled speaker was replaced by the government candidate,Hon. Titus Ayuba Alams.
According to the outgoing Speaker, “I had to resign because I did not want to cause another round of crisis in the State., adding “I did not disappoint the House members during my tenure as Speaker. But it’s painful that I had to resign, Plateau has witnessed a lot of crisis and Peace has returned to the State and I will not want to cause another round of crisis in the State.
He urged all members to support his successor for another successful tenure.
Meanwhile the lawmakers unanimously adopted the Member representing Bokkos constituency Hon. Titus Alams as the new speaker.
His emergence as Speaker followed a nomination by Zainab Dogo representing Quan Pan South Constituency and was seconded by Audu Adere representing Rukuba Constituency.
Alams nomination was unanimously accepted by other members of the house and he was subsequently sworn in by the clerk of the house Ayuba Gongu.
He is said to be the State Government’s candidate as the executive has done everything possible to induce the lawmakers financially, a source had told Africanexaminer, by ensuring he emerged as Speaker.
In his acceptance speech Alams said the assignment is a race as the baton was passed to him, so he will one day pass it to another person.
Stressing that, he will run the race cautiously, sincerely and faithfully for the benefit of the house and the good people of the State.
He urged his colleagues to support him and help him carry out his new assignment without fear or favour.
