Alamieyeseigha: More accolades for Governor Dickson
Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria Wednesday, April 6th, 2016Governor Seriake Dickson has received a pat on the back for the state government’s efforts geared towards giving a befitting State burial to the first civilian governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, whose funeral has been fixed for this weekend at his country home, Amassoma in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the State.
The first Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources in the State and one time Secretary to the State Government, Professor Steve Azaiki, made the commendation in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Yenagoa.
He expressed satisfaction with the role being played by Dickson and the government, adding that the restoration administration has been massively involved financially and otherwise in the ongoing efforts to accord the Governor General of the Ijaw Nation a befitting honour.
Azaiki noted with satisfaction that, the State government has so far demonstrated over eighty percent involvement, stressing that, apart from designing and constructing a befitting resting place for the former governor of the State, it was carrying out massive renovation and building of old and new structures at his compound in Amassoma as well as the rehabilitation of some roads and other infrastructures, within the community to ensure a hitch free funeral.
He described Dickson as a leader with a kind and humane disposition, who accorded Chief Alamieyeseigha his desired respect and honour, while he was still alive, as the government footed nearly all the bills of the late Ijaw hero’s medical trips abroad, as well as the payment of his monthly entitlements, as a former governor of the State, that were denied him by the previous administration.
Azaiki pointed out that, late Alamieyeseigha impacted positively on so many lives across the length and breadth of the Country and even beyond through his benevolence disposition, stressing that, such friends should rally round the family he has left behind and not to sit on the fence and cast aspersions on the state Governor, who has demonstrated tremendous commitment to the ongoing funeral arrangements of the former governor.
He said, “For him to have even appointed his Deputy to head the burial committee is a clear manifestation of how serious the governor and the administration he leads takes this whole event to heart.
“We only pray and hope that, all the efforts are crowned with success, because DSP Alamieyeseigha the Governor General of the Ijaw Nation and the Champion of the struggle for resource control deserves nothing less than a befitting and a peaceful rest, which we must all work towards achieving, as Ijaw people.”
