The PDP flag bearer for August 9, 2014 governorship election in Osun state; Senator Iyiola Omisore has called on Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); Prof Attahiru Jega to remove Ambassador Olutoyin Akeju as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun state.
Omisore made this call while receiving his Certificate of Return as PDP Governorship Candidate at PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on thursday.
He said: “I want to inform members of our party that we have an APC as an umpire called Ambassador Akeju. I want to task the national working committee and indeed Nigerians that for a free and fair election in Osun State, Akeju must go.
” I will appeal to the party to work with relevant agencies of government to ensure that the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, removes the Osun Resident Electoral Commissioner, Amb. Olutoyin Akeju. With Akeju free and fair election is not sure in Osun”.
Omisore said his emergence marked the beginning of a new dawn for the people of Osun who were tired of three and a half years of misrule by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola led APC government in the state.
“The task to uproot APC from Osun State is daunting but surmountable. The journey to remove APC from Osun and indeed the South West is a journey that must be undertaken, with the people behind us, I can assure the national headquarters of our party we can do it.
“I am aware of the task before me and am ready for it. I am on rescue mission, to rescue people of Osun state from Aregbesola’s misrule”.
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, while presenting the certificate of return to Omisore said said the task of uprooting governor Rauf Aregbesola and the All Progressives Congress from Osun State would be a difficult task, adding that the task is possible with Omisore as party flag bearer.
Mu’azu urged Senator Omisore to reconcile with the aggrieved members of the party in the state to ensure victory of the party in the governorship election slated for August 9.
The PDP National Chairman said, “You should know that your winning this primary is the beginning of a great beginning. The election before you is not a joke, you are going to uproot and remove another political party, it is not easy.
“I am sure you are a man not a small boy. I am sure you are a man not a woman, so you are up to the task. Prove to us and the members of the party that you have all it takes to do it.”
