After Endless Rows, Controversial FIFA President, Blatter Bows Out
Latest Headlines, Sports News Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015By Niyi Adeyi – At last, the controversial fifth time President of the world Football governing body, Sepp Blatter, has thrown in the towel, as he announced his resignation Tuesday from the global Football house exalted position.
Blatter and many FIFA officials have been embroiled in messy controversies of corruption, culminating in the demand by UEFA, United States and other stakeholders around the world for him to step down from election, which held in the FIFA 2015 annual congress last week.
While announcing his resignation, the 79-year-old Blatter called an extraordinary FIFA congress “as soon as possible” to usher in a new head.
It would be recalled about seven FIFA officials arrested and detained last week by the US Department of Justice on charges of racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering in a 24-year scheme.
Blatter while calling for another congress confessed the moral burden accusation against him as he revealed: “My mandate does not appear to be supported by everybody.”
