8:30 pm – APC Collation Agent stabbed in Khana LGA

As election crisis escalate in Rivers State, APC Collation Agent in Khana Ward 15, Unit 10, Gbogbo Eric was said to have been stabbed by hoodlums accompanying members of the PDP.  There are indications that agents of the APC are falling victim to several forms of electoral malpractices and perpetrated by member of the PDP in the presence of security agents provided to ensure their security.

8:00 pm – Rivers APC Condemns Alleged Re-writing of Results By INEC, PDP (Press Release)

The Greater Together Campaign Organization wishes to condemn the unashamed re-writing of results going on in St Andrews School, Mile one Diobu by Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and security operatives.

7:00 pm – APC In Early Lead In Rivers

 Despite the orgy of killings, rampage by gunmen, burning of houses and vicious attacks on specific targets executed by domestic and imported militias across Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has taken early an lead in the April 11, governorship election.

Interim reports collated and declared at some polling units show that APC and PDP exchanged victories and losses in their local government areas of strength and weakness.

For instance, Port Harcourt Ward 018 Polling Unit 012, APC scored 130 while PDP received 84 votes.

However in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Ward 003 PU 001, PDP scored 62 whereas APC has 41. In Eleme Alode Ward 2, of the 11 Polling Units, APC won in 9 while PDP secured victory in only 2.

The results await the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, confirmation and announcement.

1:12 pm – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has hailed the Guber and House of Assembly polls which is still underway nationwide. Atiku said this after his accreditation at his polling unit in Adamawa State. He said today’s exercise was better as there was no tension compare to the Presidential poll.

12:59 pm – Reports say one person has been killed in Nkam LGA of Cross Rivers State as election violence erupted in the area.

12:20 pm – Elections disrupted in Kula Community and Abonema in Akuku Tori LGA of Rivers. Meanwhile, INEC has announced shift to April 18, election in some constituencies in Bayelsa State, including Sagbama. Reason for the decision is due to non-availability of voting materials.

12:00pm – Rivers State Govt Refutes SMS Postponing Elections

A statement by Rivers state government reads: “The attention of the Rivers State Government has been drawn to SMS message purporting the cancellation of elections in the state by the Independent Electoral Commission.

“The state governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi hereby reaffirms his position that the elections must hold as scheduled and that all eligible voters in the state should go out and exercise their rights to elect the next Governor and members of the State House of Assembly.

“Rivers people are further reassured of the Government commitment to ensuring their safe and security at the elections.”

11:41am – FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA – Guber Poll: Accreditation Begins On Time In Enugu 

Enugu – Accreditation of eligible voters for the governorship/ Houses of Assembly elections commenced on time in parts of Enugu state.

Our Correspondent who is monitoring the polls, reports that unlike the presidential/ National Assembly elections, which witnessed some hitches due to the card reader failure, today’s exercise is going on smoothly.

At Amobe polling unit 2 in Orba,Udenu council Area of Enugu state, the exercise had been peaceful since it began around 9am amidst tight security.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after his accreditation, at the Amube polling unit, the Enugu state Peoples Democratic party PDP gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi expressed satisfaction with the process. He expressed optimism that his party would be victorious at the end of the election.

11:40 am – APC cries out over PDP-instigated violence, voting disruptions in Lagos, Rivers, Ondo.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alerted the security agencies to cases of violence and disruption of voting in several areas of Lagos, Rivers and Ondo states, urging them to swing into action to ameliorate the situation.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said in many parts of Lagos, thugs armed by the PDP are on rampage, shooting sporadically to scare away voters and carting away voting materials.

It said the development confirmed earlier statements by the APC that the PDP has been engaging in gun running in Lagos, with a view to arming thugs to disrupt the polls. APC listed instances as follows:

LAGOS

– PDP thugs on rampage in Abule Okuta area of Bariga LCDA. Their sporadic shootings have disrupted the accreditation exercise in the area as INEC officials, voters and residents scamper for safety.

– PDP thugs are harassing and intimidating APC agents, and INEC officials are refusing to show result sheets to APC agents who demand such. There are fears that those results sheets may have been handed over to PDP.

– PDP agents storm Polling Units in Apapa Ward A Unit 009 with persons who who do not belong to the PUs and they were accredited – OPC thugs under police protection attacking voters and INEC officials all over Lagos.

– No Electoral Officers in PUs in Ogudu, a known APC stronghold.

– PDP Secretariat in Apapa (Lander Close) off Liverpool Road filled with OPC men from Ajegunle

– Police in Iyana Ipaja arresting intending voters holding PVCs and locking them up in police stations, thus preventing their accreditation – Electoral materials hijacked in many Polling Units in Ibeju Lekki. PDP thugs waylay INEC officials, vowed to kill them if they come to the PUs.

– Ballot boxes snatched in three Polling Units in Eti-Osa LG – Shortage of Card Readers in many Polling Units in Ikorodu.

RIVERS

– Over 50 soldiers have been posted to Nyesom Wike’s residence in Old GRA area of Port Harcourt. The troops have been harassing people in the area. – Home of Commissioner for Women Affairs in Rivers State, Joeba West, set ablaze in Buguma.

– INEC registration area centre in Kalabari National College in Buguma also set ablaze

– Police patrol vehicle also burnt in Buguma by suspected PDP thugs.

ONDO

– Electoral materials hijacked in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State by His Royal Majesty, Oba FRederick Obateru Akinruntan, The Okoro Ajiga 1, of Ugbo KIngdom, in collusion with the PDP. The Oba’s son is a candidate of the PDP./end

11:30am – By Ayo Balogun, Lagos – Apathy As Lagos Residents Shun Poll

Only few residents turned out for accreditation in many polling units in Lagos, Nigeria for the governorship and house of assembly elections as mass apathy sweeps across the State. Though, the process was smooth, INEC officials did not have much work to do as people refused to turnout for accreditation.

INEC officials came to various polling units on time. The card readers were function very well but the turnout was extremely poor. Problems associated with non-functional card readers in the presidential election were non-existence in this poll as there were no issues with. Break. Down card readers.

Places like Oshodi, Alimosho, Abule Egba, Ojota, Kosofe, Ojo, Amuwo Odofin, Festac, Ajeromi Ifelodun, Ikeja, Alausa, among others, turnout was low. In some places, INEC officials were idling away as they had attended to the few people who came for accreditation as they were only awaiting the commencement of voting.

In Surulere, Governor Babatunde Fashola came for accreditation around 11:30 am with his wife, Abimbola at polling unit 002, State Senior Grammar School, Itolo. The governor was disappointed with the low turnout, calling on Lagosians to come out of their houses for accreditation before the end of the exercise.

10:30 am – In Okrika LGA of Rivers state, hometown of the First Lady, the smart cards are reportedly not working in most units. The INEC officials have resulted to manual accreditation. Political thugs are said to have hijacked voting materials in some LGA in the area especially in Akukutoru LGA of the state.

11: 20 am – Agabus Pwanagba, Jos – Accreditation is ongoing in various polling units across the 17 LGAs in Plateau State.

The accreditation commenced at about 8:30am but is not without hitches in some polling units. Some of the areas facing challenges are Jenta Apata in Jos North, Vom in Jos South and most polling units in Langtang North and Langtang South LGAs. According to an INEC’s Head of Voter education and Publicity, Osaretin Imahiyereobo who also confirmed the challenges in Langtang, but assured that INEC’s technical team is tackling the issue. However, generally the turnout has been impressive.

11:12 am – Jimi Agbaje (PDP Guber candidate) said report of violence of violence has been mentioned. Also complained that the accrdidation exercise is slow in some areas. Agabje said this affect accrditaion in his Apapa LG.

11:10 am – Akinwumi Ambode (APC Guber Candidate) said after accreditation in his Epe unit in Epe LGA that the exercise has been peaceful so far.

11:00 am -Mr David Iyofor, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Amaechi, said the governor’s telephone numbers have been cloned – His statement reads: “This is to inform members of the public that the Telephone numbers of the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon CHIBUIKE Rotimi Amaechi has been cloned and the criminals who did the cloning are using his phone numbers to send out fake text messages to people not to come out and vote. Pls that text message is not from Governor Amaechi. The Governor’s position remains that Rivers voters should come out to vote today. People should disregard that fake text message.”

10:50am – In Badagry, Lagos state, people have been very orderly in going through their accreditation process. The card readers were said to working effectively better than that of the presidential elections. The voters turn out was said to be impressive too.

10:40am – The Chief of Staff, Government House, Rivers state, Chief Tony Okocha has raised the alarm that a group of policemen stormed the Olanada Registration Area Centre in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area and carted away with election materials. He said original election materials were replaced with fake one ones.

10:38am – Former Gov. Bola Tinubu has commended INEC for a smooth exercise. He acknowledged that the ad hoc staff has received more training to improve on the lapses of the presidential election. He told journalists after voting in his Ikeja polling unit that the exercise is peaceful for now.

10:00am (Nigerian Time): Generally there is calm in Ojokoro, Fagba, New Oko-Oba under Ifako-Ijaiye LGA. INEC officials arrived early. Voters turned out in good number. Card readers work smoothly and efficiently. Voters accredited faster and easily compare to difficulties witnessed during the presidential elections.

9:00am – INEC officials arrived some of the units in Ifako Ijaiye including Ogba, Ikeja as early as 7am.

8:00am (Nigeria time) accreditation underway across the country.
