Acting IGP Abba Vows to Intensify Fight Against Insurgency
Featured, Latest Headlines Friday, August 1st, 2014The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba, has promised to intensify fight against crime in addition to effort to upgrade and promote standard of the Force’s performance.
Abba who made the pledge at the change of baton ceremony in Abuja Friday, thanked President Goodluck Jonathan, for reposing confidence and giving him an opportunity to serve the country.
While assuring the general public of his administration’s readiness to place a high priority on the creating a safe and secured environment for all citizens, transforming the Force into “a leading national, professional and efficient institution, the acting IGP called for the cooperation of all Nigerians in the collective service to the country.
Abba’s predecessor, Muhammed Abubakar, in his remarks at the occasion urged the officers of the Nigeria Police Force to extend maximum cooperation to the new IGP who he described as a “competent and committed officer” with capacity to take the security outfit to next level.
President Jonathan announced on Thursday Abba’s appointment on the acting capacity as the 35 mandatory years of former IGP Abubakar lapsed on July 31, 2014.
The Acting IGP is a native of Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State. He holds degrees in History and Law and has attended several management and security courses within and outside Nigeria. He is an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos.
Abba has held several posts in the Force hierarchy which included: Commissioner of Police in Lagos State during the 2011 general elections and was the Deputy Force Secretary twice both as Commissioner of Police and as a Deputy Commissioner of Police. He once served as ADC to the wife of Former Military Head of State, Mrs Maryam Abacha. He was also an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), zone 7, the position he occupied until his elevation as new Police boss among many others.
Abba formally resumed office today.
