Abia: Senator Nwaogu Dumps PDP For APC, Says Party Has Lost Focus
Featured, Latest Headlines, Politics Sunday, June 14th, 2015By IGNATIUS OKPARA, Umuahia – The Immediate past senator that represented Abia Central senatorial District at the National Assembly NASS, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu, has decamped from the People’s Democratic Party PDP to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
Speaking at her defection ceremony at the weekend in Umuahia, the former lawmaker, stated that she dumped the PDP because the party lost focus and started playing God, a development that caused it the presidential election.
She frowned at the lack of internal democracy in the PDP, pointing out that she was not allowed to exercise her franchise during last the governorship election in her state.
The former senator, who represented Obingwa / Osisioma Ngwa / Ugwunagbo federal constituency in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007 and Abia Central zone at the senate from 2007 to 2015, explained that she decided to joined the APC so as to help champion change in Abia and Nigeria.
She however, commended the APC leaders in yhe state for holding the party together.
Her words: “I reaffirm that I have willingly decided to be a loyal and respectful member of the APC. It is a day of joy, home coming and rediscovery of myself once again.
“I have come to support the party and not to take over ,I thank God for seeing me through the House of Reps and Senate for 12 years.
“After 12 years, there must be change for the better. I have joined the change train. I’m here to work with you to move the party, forward in the state and Nigeria at large”
“We need to collectively build and reposition APC in Abia state. We must be the agents of change Nigerians crave for. I will help to make APC more viable in Abia” she promised,
Receiving the former senate committee chairman on Gas into the party, State Chairman of the APC, Chief Donatus Nwankpa, said APC has made a big catch with a political heavyweight like Nwaogu’s.
He added that her entry marks a turning point for the party in the state.
The chairman, said the doors of the party are widely open to reputable politicians, saying “APC is desirous of taking her rightful place in the politics of the state.
