Abia Poly ASUP Call-Off 12-Day Old Strike, Resumes Monday

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP has suspended its 12- day old strike at the Abia state Polytechnic, Aba.
African Examiner reports that the union had on August 12 embarked on an industrial action, following the failure of the governing council and management to pay lecturers’ their salary arrears.
Chairman of ASUP, Precious Nwakodo, explained on Saturday in Aba that the strike was suspended because the authorities of the polytechnic paid two months out of the arrears.
However, because of the development Nwakodo, hinted that work would resume on Monday, August 25th, 2014
According to him, the governing council had, in a letter dated July 10, 2014 and signed by its Chairman, Christopher Enweremadu, promised to pay two out of five months’ arrears.
The chairman expressed gratitude to the state government for the payment, adding that the remaining three months arrears would be paid when its subvention was released.
