Abia Police Discovers, Raids Kidnappers’ Training School; 37 Suspects Apprehended

The Abia Police Command announced on Thursday that it has discovered and raided one Ugorji compound in Obingwa council area of the state, used by the criminals as “a training school for kidnappers.”
State Commissioner for Police, Adamu Ibrahim, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen, indicated a total of 37 suspects were arrested by his men during the raid.
According to him, the raid, was carried out following a tip-off by the residents. CP Ibrahim however assured residents of the state that security agencies had stepped up surveillance in the state, with a view to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
The police boss had also paraded a suspected kidnapper, who in connivance with other fleeing gang members abducted one Ikechukwu Chiedogo of Ozubulu Road Aba.
He said: “following a distress call by the wife of the victim, Ogechukwu Chiedogo, about the abduction of her husband, a chase was given to the fleeing kidnappers by the State police Anti-Terror Squad.
Ibrahim further stated that as his men were closing in on the kidnappers, they opened fire, adding that two of the abductors were later overpower by the police in the ensuing gun duel. He stated efforts were on to track down the gang members who were still at large.
The Abia Police Chief, said following a letter of threat addressed to one Friday Nweke of Highest Road, Umumba Obohia, Aba, by the kidnappers who were making a demand of N300,000 from the complainant, the police apprehended two suspects, namely Jones Nwabeke and Okwukwe Udo who would soon be charged to court after police investigations.
