85-Year-Old Community Leader Beheaded In Edo Over Land Dispute
Latest Headlines, News Wednesday, January 28th, 2015FROM IGNATIUS OKPARA, Benin-City – The entire Arougba village in Oredo Council Area of Edo State, has been thrown into anxiety and confusion as unknown assailants on Tuesday beheaded the assistant Head, of the community , Chief Uwumahongie, over alleged land dispute.
African Examiner Online gathered that the killers were said to have left with the victim’s head after they shot him.
The Late 85 year old Octogenarian, had fled to Irhirhi after crisis broke out at Aruogba where many houses were set ablaze and three persons killed by rampaging youths.
He was said to be alone at his in-law’s residence at Irhirhi village when the attackers struck.
Confirming the incident to newsmen, widow of the deceased, Julie, 55, said she was informed about 5:30 that her husband had been killed, over a landed property.
Hear her: “One Osamwonyi had earlier threatened to kill my husband before the crisis, after we ran away from the village during the crisis to seek refuge at my father’s village at Irhirhi, Osamwonyi saw him here and said he would still kill him.”
When contacted, Edo State Police public Relations officer, PPRO, Joseph Edogiawerie, disclosed that two suspects had already been arrested in connection with the barbaric act.
The Edo police command spokesman, added that security operatives were on the trail of perpetrators of the heinous crime.
