7up Boosts Enugu Police Football Team

jabualniThe 7up Bottling company PLC, has donated assorted sporting kits valued several thousands of naira to the police machine football team of the Enugu state police command.

In his remarks during the official presentation and unveiling of the items at the state police headquarters Enugu on Thursday, General manager of 7up plc Mr. Yinka Adesina, said the gesture was part of the company’s corporate socio responsibility.

Represented by the Plant’s Security Manager,  Ekwere Ntiedo Okon, the GM, said the company had over the years, been in the vanguard of promoting and developing sports through its Pepsi Academy.

He however, assured that the company would continue to support police machine football club of Enugu to enable it move to the next level.

The state commissioner of police, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed in his speech, said, “what is being witnessed today is a true reflection of repositioning of the team borne out of sincere partnership with 7up bottling company.”

He assured that the police Team under his administration would be a strong force, just as he extolled efforts of the management of the team as well as the team spirit among the players.

Commissioner Mohammed noted that it was such commitment that had led to the production of many talented sports men and women from the team and charge them not to relent.

He expressed appreciation to other stakeholders in sports development in the state such as sports journalists for their cooperation towards the growth of the police team.

Earlier in his welcome address, team manager of the police football club Ebere Amaraizu, had thanked the state commissioner of police for his fatherly support and encouragement to the team and promised that the team would not let the command down.

Amarizu, who is also the state police public Relations Officer (PPRO), had enumerated some of the successes recorded so far by the team which  includes the representation of the state in the 2010/2011 National federation cup where the team proceeded to the second round and narrowly lost to Heartland football club of owerri amongst others.

He however, solicited for further assistance in the areas of recovering of the police machine pitch at the police officers mess owerri which has been devastated by erosion.

The team manager gave kudos to Rangers FC management, state ministry of youth and sports, Enugu football Association and the Referees council Enugu state for their support.

Highlight of the event was the formal unveiling of the three types of the club jerseys, cones, branded footballs and jabulani balls amongst other sporting kits.
