6 Dead In Rival Cult Clash In Ekiti
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria, News From The State Monday, April 19th, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – six people have died in a rival cult clash in Ikere Ekiti, Local Government Area of Ekiti.
The clash started on Saturday when a cult suspect Ojuale was shot dead near Ikere City Hall in Odo Oja area of the town.
It was gathered that Ojuale, an indigene of the town, came from Port Harcount on Friday to attend a wedding ceremony before he was killed.
As a result of the development, Ojuale’s group launched a reprisal attack on the gang that killed their man.
Police spokesman Sunday Abutu confirmed the development, appealing for calm among residents.
Abutu said 10 suspects have been arrested in connection with the clash.
Abutu confirmed that six persons died in the skirmishes.
“We have begun serious operations there by combined forces of the men of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Amotekun corps and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps,” he said.
The police spokesperson also confirmed that six persons lost their lives in the clash, adding that their corpses have been deposited in the morgue.
There is increased police surveillance in the town.
